A trustworthy reader has just sent me a photo of the first official Prometheus poster, which should be hitting the web in the next couple of days. The poster also reveals the tagline:
"The search for our beginning could lead to our end"
There have been numerous fan made posters floating around for a while. Some very good ones, and some quite ok, but here I can finally present to you the real thing:
UPDATE:
I've just received a high resolution scan of the poster:

FAAAAAAAAAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteNeeds more head.
ReplyDeleteenough with the images already, give me a friggin' trailer!!! I can't wait any longer, if it's not here on dec. 31st I will kill myself!
ReplyDeleteMaybe yes... maybe no... nobody knows
ReplyDeleteNo it's real. My bro is at a screening for MI:4, he's seen it also. it's the real deal.
ReplyDelete6.08.2012!!! oh nooooooooooo(
ReplyDeletedo i see an R rating logo anywhere in the credits???
ReplyDeleteI second that last question!
ReplyDeleteThat is one shite tagline
ReplyDeleteThe Girl with the Dragon tattoo is the best bet for the trailer...it will hit the target audience it needs and will compliment the Fincher film as well....here we go...
ReplyDeleteI like it - menacing, bit like the "Dead and Buried" poster from the 70's. No visual ref to Alien tho...
ReplyDeleteFox is the distributor of The Darkest Hour, which opens at Christmas.
ReplyDeleteThere is no company overlay with The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
We need a straight answer concerning the connection to Alien because frankly: no alien, no movie. It has to go beyond Weyland-Yutani logos.
ReplyDeleteIts an enlarged copy of the 1979 Alien poster - honest juststep back from it the whole shadowy form is an egg complete the light crack
ReplyDeleteIf this does have some connection with Alien it will not be anywhere near as good..i've read what people have said on this site for the last few weeks and seen the petty arguments about who is the best director and which is the best film in the franchise -- the simple fact is that Dan O Bannon is dead and he will not have any influence on this film and he was one if not the main creative influence on Alien - from concept to script to film -
ReplyDeleteSemi
I like it. Looks ominious and creepy.
ReplyDeleteThey cant put a rating on a teaser poster, the film hasn't been submitted for rating yet lol. The whole thing screams Alien to me (as the previous poster mentioned) the light crack, formatting etc. It's hardly hiding it if you look :)
ReplyDeleteI agree. If this is the alien prequel, the poster shows nothing or says anything it is. People unlike us, who knows what it's about will have no clue that this IS a prequel to the classic.
ReplyDeleteLame as all hell. As a teaser poster it does absolutely nothing to tease me, or anyone else for that matter. Big let down as I'm sure the film will be too...
ReplyDeleteNot to belittle the memory of the man, but wasn't O'Bannon credited with AVP2? Which in all fareness was a more subversive film... I'm just saying his envolvement would not be the end all be all you might think it would...
ReplyDeleteOKAY - So LOWER RIGHT - Is this a "R" rated symbol?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
ReplyDeleteWE NEED A HIGHER RES PIC!!!
The Darkest Hour looks terrible.
ReplyDeleteHorrid in every way!
And I hope Fincher's Americanized remake BOMBS.
O'Bannon was only credited in AVP/AVP2 as well as all the horrid sequels because he wrote the original.
ReplyDeleteThe credit is usually "Original characters and story by Dan O'Bannon"
Or "Based on characters/story by Dan O'Bannon"
BUT REST ASSURE - Mr. O'Bannon never had anything to do with any of the terrible sequels.
why don't they just recycle the posters from those horrible avp films with a big xenomorph head on it and just call it alien whateva. personally i could careless if any one else knows that this is a loose prequeal to alien, and do we really need to cheapen this film but plastering xenomorphs on it? cause if it even remotely resembled any of those avps posters i would swear the franchise and ridely scott off forever. i want to see something original not reguritated i think we've had enough shitty alien films to last us for a lifetime. plus you have got to think that any one that is a fan of alien already knows about this film and anyone that isn't a fan might see that poster and think "well that's interesting i wonder what this movie is about" and they might be more inclined to go see it as opposed "oh it's another shitty alien remake movie" which i am sure would be more the line of thought if xenomoprhs were plastered all over it.
ReplyDeleteThey might as well recycle Ridleys alien, cause this will be just as bad or probably worse!
ReplyDeleteIf Prometheus is anything like the Darkest Hour-We are doomed. Have you seen that trailer?
ReplyDeletedo i see an R rating logo anywhere in the credits???
ReplyDeleteAs Kane said: "excellent question"
OKAY - So LOWER RIGHT - Is this a "R" rated symbol?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
ReplyDeleteYes Please, Please, yes....
OKAY - So LOWER RIGHT - Is this a "R" rated symbol?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
ReplyDeleteCan't tell. It's too pixelated... "Baby hurry up come on!!! Give us an "R" for Ridley!!!
I was looking at it and it does look like an R with rated next to it! I agree...unless my eyes are playing tricks on me.
ReplyDeleteThe scan on AICN's website is much cleaner and larger.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see what the Space Jockey's look like and what their back story is.
ReplyDelete^Agreed
ReplyDeleteAlso, there is no rating on this poster. Check out the hi-res version.
I watched the leaked test trailer like 20 times. It was great and I was lucky to see it. At the end of it, it showed the Jockey coming up from the floor. I couldn't make out what it looked like. It also showed the jockey/derelict spaceship firing at the crew from above. Obviously, the Jockey's don't like us. Come June, we will find out why! Very excited and hoping FOX releases the R cut.
ReplyDeleteMy bad... and i call myself a fan... shame...
ReplyDeleteAlso, there is no rating on this poster. Check out the hi-res version.
ReplyDeleteSigh... Give us "R"ealism...
MEM..don't be so hard on yourself...it was only up for a few hours before it was taken down. It was of very poor quality, the scenes changed so quickly, it was like flashes. Waiting for the real trailer.
ReplyDeleteI just heard from someone who claims to have seen 30 minutes of the rough cut of prometheus, and he said the film's got more in common with aliens than alien, whatever he meant by that. He wasn't very forthcoming, put it like that. Also Prometheus isn't so "haunting" as Alien was, which explains the pg-13 rating, I suppose.
ReplyDeleteTo the poster immediately above: I think you may be right. When I watched the leaked trailer, I got the vibe that Prometheus was an action blockbuster akin to Aliens, hence the PG 13 rating. Maybe that is also why the studio and the actors are so vocal with the "not prequel" mantra as they don't want us to expect the film to be similar in style and tone to Alien...
ReplyDeleteBoth above posts correct (of sort). Not like Aliens story but action orientate is correct. Tone only like Alien until discovery then movie switch gear. Is marines present. Story allow for Queen and other Alien movies but many more creatures (creations) besides. Because of this many sequel directions possible.
ReplyDeleteWill not give spoilers but if something here wrong will say.
Why no person ask who is big guy?
Is big scene like chestburst but not chestburst. You will ache but no reveal SORRY! You will love movie
ReplyDeleteOk no more speak here anymore or will land hot water. Enjoy Prometheus, hope trailer soon. I wait too!
ReplyDeletebye, enjoy holidays
I prefer the tagline in the first alien movie. In space no one can hear you scream. Mmmmmm!
ReplyDelete"The Darkest Hour" looks like an ASYLUM picture.
ReplyDeleteCan't believe they are seriously releasing this on Christmas?!?!
What are they thinking?!?!
Please for the love of God people don't support this garbage.
My bad for posting O'Bannon had something to do with the screen writing of AVP2. I recalled seeing his name credited as a writer, apparently I didn't notice "original characters" credit. Sorry Dan.
ReplyDeleteMEM
On that note did O'Bannon ever express where we wanted to see the series go? Anyone have any idea?
ReplyDeleteIt would be awesome if, after an excellent viewing of PROMETHEUS, we are greeted with "Dedicated to Dan O'Bannon"
ReplyDeleteI mean we got Ridley and H.R. Giger back together...
I'm sure they miss him and want to show respect.
Dan was awesome. Watching the 3 hour making of ALIEN documentary shows what a labor of love he had for this film.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely CAN'T WAIT for this!! If (like a couple folks said above) this turns out more like "Aliens", it should be a huge success. And BTW, who cares if it's "R" or "PG13"? What would be the difference really? Maybe a few more "F" words and some Noomi sideboob? If the story is great, I don't really care.
ReplyDeleteI think this movie will be like an adventure sci-fi for most of the part then switch gear to become more action orientated.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the crew of Prometheus dared to touch / steal the technology of the Space Jockeys and got either punished by the Space Jockeys or themselves by creating a protoform of the wellknown xenomorph.
I am glad this is not going to be a true prequel. Instead of leading up to Alien, we get a new direction. This means a whole new franchise, its the smartest thing they could have done. I just hope FOX doesn't run it into the ground like the original.
ReplyDeleteI agree. The film will no likely be dedicated to the man who began it all, broke and sleeping on a couch just out of film school...
ReplyDeleteI like how the eyebrow looks like an Alien's head. ;)
ReplyDeleteYOU READ IT I THOUGHT IT WAS CLEAR...
ReplyDeleteO'Bannon was a hack who had the shell of a great idea and needed Ridley Scott, Giger, Shuset, Giler and Walter Hill to bring us what we got in 1979. O'Bannon is on record as hating almost every addition that made A L I E N so unique (Ash as an android, corporate conspiracy, hints at a larger story than just monster-on-spaceship).
ReplyDeleteAnyone else get a wierd, Terry Gilliam-esque vibe from the Giant Head?
ReplyDelete@08:11 BTW we real fans do care about the rating ......the movie must be rated R for other reasons that you stated.
ReplyDeleteI didn't care this thing wasn't related to alien, It didn't matter it was pg-13 but I sincerely have a problem with the fact that it seems to deal with the beginning of the human species. We have a very accurate idea of the evolution of hominids and humans trough all the steps of the ladder. Exactly where do you fit a techno-organic engineer that (judging by the huge face) has a predilection for white occidental males? Sci-fi my ass. I sincerely hope this thing is not the Robin Hood crap to the alien franchise. I sincerely hope this is not Lindelof writing himself to a corner again.
ReplyDeleteO Bannon a hack?...seriously dude you know nothing ...watch return of the living dead - wrote, scripted, designed and directed return of the living dead - the only Zombie film that comes close to Romero's films - I would say Sean of the dead is pretty decent too - but to say the guy who came up with the idea, the story, the screenplay and giving his blessing to have the contributers involved to make Alien shows you know nothing and are a troll - many careers that are still going in the film industry are because of Dan - jog on dude jog on!! - READ AND WEEP

ReplyDeleteIf it is PG-13 it will lose intensity and realism. It has nothing to do with losing gore or nudity which aren't necessary to make a really good movie. Intensity and realism on the other hand are necessary to make a movie like this the best it can be. PG-13 forfeits that. I don't understand some of these posts that so staunchly defend PG-13. It's almost like FOX is here posting...
"it's almost like Fox is here posting..."

ReplyDeleteThis movie is going to be worse than the original alien!
PROMETHEUS is 90% its own movie, 10% A L I E N. It's not the Jockey ship from the original, but another ship of exact origin. This is all just speculative, but from the scraps I have gathered, I believe they go looking for our greatest most profound question but get stranded in the process on a biomechaniod world where there are no answers, just terror. Who created us becomes less important as it turns into a game of survival.
ReplyDeleteThere is simply no reason for PG-13.
ReplyDeleteI hate how people who are PRO-13 (who grows these trolls anyhow?!?!) say things like all they do is add a few clips of violence or language or nudity for R.
YOU'VE GOT IT ALL WRONG.
They don't ADD anything for R!
They SUBTRACT shit to make it PG-13.
All the stuff is there. They just cut it out for PG-13.
Ridley clearly stated he's filming "both versions" to cover his ass.
Ridley is famous for having a billion different cuts of his films.
Trust me, if it's PG-13 it will be because things have been TAKEN OUT.
tagline should be changed to:
ReplyDelete'like ALIEN but for kids'
if its PG13 it will be in the same catogry horror/intensity wise as Harry Potter, Transformers, GI Joe Rise of the Cobra and all the superhero movies
ReplyDeletePROMETHEUS is 90% its own movie, 10% A L I E N. It's not the Jockey ship from the original, but another ship of exact origin. This is all just speculative, but from the scraps I have gathered, I believe the crew (all might I add, synthetic humans) blast off on a mission looking for answers to mankind's greatest most profound question but get stranded in the process on a biomechaniod world where there are no answers, just terror. A world where the lifeforms, landscapes and buildings organically interfuse in almost a sexual manner. There is wonder and depravity. Who created humans becomes less important and is never explained as it turns into a game of survival. One member of the crew malfunctions, stealing alien DNA to complete itself and mutates, proceeding to kill off the crew. I believe this film is going to kick off a brand new franchise. It makes sense for FOX and the fans.
ReplyDeleteWhy do we have to have this stupid PG-13 debate in every thread now?
ReplyDeleteer because no one wants it to be PG13?
ReplyDeleteAgreed. But we've established that- over and over.
ReplyDeleteyeah but people REALLY dont want the PG13 rating butsense and fear that it will happen
ReplyDeleteimagine if someone told you in the 1990s that one day in the future there would be Alien , Terminator, and Die Hard films that would have the same PG rating as the likes of transformers, kiddie game films, superhero kiddie films etc
ReplyDeleteyoud just cry

ReplyDeleteRespectfully speaking, this is one of if not the most unintelligent posts I've seen here.
Why do we have to have this stupid PG-13 debate in every thread now?
ReplyDeleteIt's the most pressing issue concerning the movie at this point. It will determine the tone of the movie (intensity and realism) which in this case will have a HUGE impact on its overall quality. For me, it will determine whether or not I will see it.
I'm sick of PG-13 ruining movies. RobinHood could have been as good as Braveheart and Gladiator, however it sucked because it was super toned down for the pre-teens.
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm sure they ARE! who the he'll else is going to desire a PG-13 rating?? Put two and two together and there you go!
ReplyDeleteWell said...
I think PROMETHEUS will be rated 15 by the BBFC here in the UK. I am not sure of the US equivalent but I am certain Ridley and FOX will agree a compromise on the final cut to appease all. I would welcome that. Something in between PG13 and R. R would lessen revenue from a studio perspective by limiting the audience. I think they'll negotiate with Ridley to find a middle ground.
ReplyDeleteBetter tagline: "There are some questions in the universe that are best left unanswered."
ReplyDeleteShow me an intelligent dark film with horror, tension, nudity, adult language, humor, and good character development. Hard R-this is the only way to enjoy this film. Fuck all the weak hearted PG13 people out there, this film is not made for you. Its for the Alien fans!
ReplyDeleteA studio is not going to put out a $250m movie and rate it R in this economic climate. It would be a big financial gamble. A middle ground on the final cut would be suitable. A classification in between the targeted demographics. The studio own the franchise and function to make money. It's a business. FOX respects Sir Ridley, so he'll have a major say in who he is aiming the film at. A film doesn't have to be rated R to be atmospheric and disturbing. We've seen the blood and guts. PROMETHEUS is aiming for a more intellectual take on things. Sometimes "what you don't see" can be far more enriching, suspenseful and thought provocative. An R rated bloodbath would lower the tone. Anyone who thinks this film should be rated R period are fanboys who don't understand the business. Personally, I think they all crave another Alien Resurrection, which was abject at best. A complete cluster-F++K.

ReplyDeleteNice script. The studio will make more money long term with an "R" rating through ancillary revenue, and unfortunately there is no "middle ground." You cannot make this kind of movie for both children and adults. Fox wants Box Office revenue because it is immediate, but long term it's not the best investment strategy. Again, with this caliber of film making, an "R" rating allows for intensity and realism. It has nothing to do with "blood and guts" or a "bloodbath." Furthermore, to say that it is fine to make Prometheus PG-13 because the unmentionable ALIEN Resurrection was rated "R" is quite a Red Herring, but I give you an "A" for effort. Yes, it's a business, however the people who pay your salary are eventually going to get sick of these games. You can't have your cake and eat it too forever...

ReplyDeleteI appreciate your response and understand your stance. I'd like to duly respond with the following in reference: Terminator 2: Judgement Day. This production was not R rated and far superseded the original on all fronts which was R rated. This is a prime example of what can be achieved. This film will also gain massive revenue instantly from the up-charge when viewed in stereoscopic 3D. Also, it's Ridley Scott and rest assured, it will look amazing.

Who in their right mind wants to see a movie about synthetic beings doing perversed things.... This is profound? I'm afraid this movie will never out sell Aliens and will be a major flop! Ridley has produced one bad movie after another.

so you obviously did not like the first film to began with so therefore this film will not appeal to you and that's fine. and it is to yet to be seen if whether or not this film will be any good, but from seeing the leaked trailer and from what i have read about the story line this is probably one of the more original and interesting films that probably has been produced in american cinema for at least in the last three years, which to me is saying a lot considering the crap that has hit the silver screen in the last couple of years. in fact i find myself watching foreign films more now days than i do hollywood films. considering that in hollywood now days the film exes what to rehash everything instead of spending time and money on new ideas. which i am sure this film was initially supposed to be one of those films but i think ridley decided instead of spitting out the same movie that he did in 1979
that he's going to take it in a new direction.
but that's ok hollywood produces enough of mind numbing boring films now day to fit your palate.

i believe you are thinking of george lucas and the star wars attack of the clones.
as far as a major flop just because a film doesn't appeal to a large audience or for that matter grosses the highest profits does not make it a great film, there's plenty of shitty films that broke records of being the highest grossing films in history some are good most are just "eh" and then there are films that are great but never really hit high box office numbers.

If Prometheus is anything like the Darkest Hour-We are doomed. Have you seen that trailer?
14 December 2011 20:09"
I've noticed people keep bringing the darkest hour up in the comments, what does that film have to do with prometheus?
This Prometheus script is sounding just as bizarre and awful as Alien Resurrection was. We don't need a futuristic perverted story about demonic beings in space. I miss the days when Ridley Scott actually did great movies!
ReplyDeleteThe numb nutz who mentioned what the Darkest Hour has anything to do with Prometheus. They were both scripted by Jon Spaihts. Watch the Darkest Hour trailer and tell me if you would waste your money on it? No wonder they brought in another scriptwriter for Prometheus.
ReplyDeleteA script is a script. A director is a director. Two different things. If Sir Ridley directed A:R, it would have been different for sure. Not saying it would be good. But different. Ridley would have tossed the script in the trash to begin with anyhow.
ReplyDeleteAlien Resurrection started out good in the beginning but turned into a complete mess. The whole hybrid Ripley and Queen was too much for me. Especially, when that ugly humanoid alien was born (I was laughing in the theater). Worst Alien film ever made besides AVP. I still can't get over how bad FOX has fucked this franchise over. They don't care about making good quality films but thats Hollywood for ya.
ReplyDeleteALIEN Resurrection has no redeeming qualities. Not only is it by far the worst in the franchise, it might be one of the worst movies ever made...
ReplyDeleteWhat does numb nutz mean?
numb nutz = dumb ass, do I need to spell it out.
ReplyDeleteRESURECTION was a parody. By this point just insult to injury. The script may have had some redeeming value, but ultimately FOX is trying to save face for blundering the franchise, but only suceeds in making matters worse. The hydrid Ripley the confrontation of the other clones, and even the mutation of the ALIEN reproduction cycle, all work IMO as conceptual narrative, yet a very frustrating chapter to say the least...
ReplyDeleteOne of the biggest secrets about this movie is the story of the space Jockeys and their world. I hope the HD trailer will address this a little more. It was difficult to get a lot out of the leaked trailer.
ReplyDeleteBULL SHIT!
ReplyDeleteSpeilberg can do hard R all day and it gets shown on network television unedited!
This bullshit that it's a gamble if it's R is complete nonsense.
How many ACADEMY AWARD WINNERS were R?
Shitloads of them!
Imagine something like The Green Mile done PG-13.
PG-13 = A THIRTEEN YEAR OLD CAN SEE IT!
How does this not jive?!?!
It is very hard for me to see any redeeming value in Cameron's T2
ReplyDeleteI've posted earlier the reasons for my profound distrust of this film.
I'd be really interested in hearing the arguments on the other side, that is how T2 conceptually holds a greater significance than the original narrative.
I can't see it.

(my first film i plan to see without them! yippeee!) i have many many friends who have just turn 13 to and we will all be going as a group and will be texting and facebooking all my other friends who are too young on our iphones throughout the film just to tell them how awesome it is but they cant see it ROTFL!
ReplyDeleteive not seen any Wigly Scott films before and am not sure about what all this 'alien' stuff is about or wheather Promethis is connected to any other films or not but it sounds to me like it is a sequel to Avatar which was also PG13 and totally AWESOME! so if that got pg13 and was amazeballs then perhaps Promethis will be to!
got to go now but i wil check in again soon bye

ReplyDeleteIn response:
An exploration of deep space to find mankind’s creator could take millenniums even with faster than light capabilities. This also could be perilous, as who knows what’s “out there?” So, we created synthetics in our own image and sent them out into space on our behalf to greet our maker and make first contact. That in itself is profound. The crew is therefore expendable. Human life is valued much higher. I believe one of the synthetics on board questions this having been enraptured by the new technology found on the biomechanoid world and plans on fusing with it to make itself a higher being to punish mankind for its greed. These synthetic beings showcase how far we have come as humans but also show our dark side. That’s how I’d play it.

This should be a hard PG13. And I'm talking a hard 13!
ReplyDeleteIf Brett Ratner turns up in this, i'll boycott the movie!!!
ReplyDeleteQuestion for 'H Stage is Gone'.....do you have any information about how much involvment Giger has had in the movie? To me, that is of higher concern and would affect the entire inspirational tone of the film. Just look at the inclusion of his one 'space jockey' scene has done for the imaginations of Alien fans for for decades....truly astounding.
