Today the viral site has been updated with a new post with the headline "Our Family is Growing", stating:
"Weyland engineers have been working around the clock to bring you the newest, most advanced addition to the Weyland family. Stay tuned for a special announcement."Along with the post comes a rather spooky image of a thumb with the Weyland logo burned into it. Could it be the sign of a mark found on the cybernetic individuals Sir Peter Weyland speaks of in his TED talk from 2023?
The post appears under the code "WCCF-73", where the '73' most likely refers to the year at which this post was supposedly made. The TED talk being in 2023, and the Weyland Industries site previously stating that it posted the video as a 50 year anniversary looking back at the important speech, ergo the year of the post being from 2073.
UPDATE:
The website has also been updated with a few more sections, which can be accessed by clicking on the Weyland logo in the upper left hand corner.
Unfortunately only a few of the sections are now open, including an 'About Us' section with some key facts about Weyland Industries in the year 2073:
Employees : 837.53 million
Headquarters : San Francisco, United States
Secondary Locations : 160 countries, 63 colonies
Businesses : Health, Transportation, Energy, Electronics, Terraforming, Security, Cybernetics
The section also includes some interesting information about Weyland Industries, with a slight hint towards things to come in Prometheus, and the importance of terraforming which has long been rumored to be one of the key subjects in the Prometheus story line.
"At Weyland Industries we apply science, technology and our unparalleled global network of resources to the pursuit of Building Better Worlds.
Everyday Weyland biologists, military scientists, chemical engineers, geologists, mechanics, pilots and more work across our solar system to advance human interests and life. As they labor, new planets, natural resources, industries, modes of transportation, and medical advancements emerge and evolve before our eyes.
As the largest company on the planet we have taken it upon ourself to constantly explore, expand, and discover what lies beyond our own heavens.
50 years ago our founder Sir Peter Weyland set out to change the world. Now, the company he created so many years ago works tirelessly with the same unlimited ambition to improve the world he changed.
Worlds have risen and worlds have fallen. That’s why at Weyland Industries we’re in the business of Building Better Worlds."
The remaining open sections include a link to Sir Peter Weyland's TED speech, and an investor registration page where fans can sign up to get information. So far it only sends you a 'thank you' message upon registering, but I'm sure it will be used to inform people of updates to the Weyland website.
The locked sections include 'Investor Information', 'Media Archive' and a 'Corporate Timeline', all of which will be revealed to us in due time I'm sure.

ReplyDeleteExcellent. Further evidence that all Alien films beyond the original are not canon.
ReplyDeleteIn Aliens, the synthetic Bishop claims he was manufactured by a corporation known as "Hyperdyne Systems". Prometheus is establishing that Weyland Industries is responsible for them. One might suggest that perhaps there's more than one company making them. Granted...but HIGHLY unlikely that Weyland would place a rival company's synthetic on a voyage they've financed.
I stand by my notion that all three other Alien films are in fact dreams of Ripley while in hypersleep. It would explain the discrepancies and contradictions. One might be tempted to suggest that Prometheus is reaffirming Aliens as legit by having the slogan "Building Better Worlds". Not necessarily...it can also confirm my hypothesis suggesting that film is a dream.
The filmmakers have tried to "stick to canon" but story wins in the end and in the end the only film that matters when connecting the stories is Alien. That doesn't mean we cannot continue to enjoy those films. On the contrary, they're just as entertaining as they ever were...just as the 1966, 1989 & 2005 Batman films are entertaining without being connected.
Hyperdyne Systems, could simply be the company that does the manufacturing. As in, Apple designs their products, but they pay Foxcorp in China to do the manufacturing. And I wish Alien 3 was a dream.
DeleteMoseph, you totally forget "Yutani" in your claim.
ReplyDeleteIt's brilliant how they are expanding this universe. In my opinion the "Building Better Worlds" brings ALIENS into the canon. There's just so many cool connections. Everything from the atmosphere processor to Weyland Yutani bigwheels. Hyperdine Systems could mean anything. I also hold to the cryonightmare idea but I always imagined A3 being the nightmare. ALIEN Resurrection isn't worth mentioning. It's lumped together with all the other trash (AVP's). It's interesting to think that if you were in cryo and got into a nightmare you wouldn't be able to get out of it. It would be interesting if in this universe this was a "problem" associated with cryosleep. Perhaps some freezers could even have a "nightmare suppressant" that activates if their brain waves show that they are in a nightmare. Perhaps a medicine that is released as a gas. Interesting to think about.
